How long will the wine last once opened?

Our bag-in-box wines will stay fresh for four (4) weeks once opened when properly stored. Once opened, we recommend storing in the refrigerator for optimal product life. Unopened, storing in a cool, dry environment is best.

What makes bag-in-box an eco-friendly form of packaging?

Glass bottles require substantial energy to produce through high-heat manufacturing and are heavy to transport, contributing to higher carbon consumption and emissions. In contrast, our bag-in-box format offers a lightweight, eco-friendly alternative with a recyclable cardboard container.

A single 3L bag-in-box holds the equivalent of four (4) bottles of wine but weighs significantly less, allowing for more efficient shipping and storage, another factor that contributes to the carbon emissions of any given product.

We worked EastPoint Engineering to audit our winery’s energy consumption and emissions and develop a management plan. As part of their report, they referenced two scientific articles and reported that bag-in-box format is 60-90% less carbon intensive than standard glass bottles for a Nova Scotia winery*. By incorporating this packaging, we reduce our reliance on glass and reduce emissions from shipping heavier products from Europe to the winery, from the winery to our retail partners, and from retail to a restaurant or home.

How do I recycle bag-in-box packaging?

It's easy: simply bring your empty bag-in-box intact to your local depot to receive your $0.10 beverage container deposit as you would with any wine bottle or can. Or if you'd like to recycle the products at home, check with your local municipality's rules to ensure they accept the cardboard and bladder in their bins respectively. The cardboard is accepted to be recycled with paper, and some municipalities accept the bladder as plastic recycling, while some may treat it as waste. For areas outside of Nova Scotia, please refer to your local recycling program guidelines.

How do I open a bag-in-box wine?

1. Lay the box on its side with the perforated flap facing upward. Press the perforated flap inwards, then peel it back toward the non-perforated edge.

2. Take the tap out by grabbing the tap from inside the box, then stand the box up right. Pull the tap through the opening outside box, arranging the tap on the circular cutaway. Push the flap back over the tap to lock into place.

3. Make sure the spout is facing toward the bottom of the box. Remove the red plastic tab to unlock the spout. Place your glass under the spout, pushing the red button to pour the wine. Enjoy!
