In the glass, a light garnet red colour with a magenta hue. On the nose, complex aromas of clove and star anise are interlaced with suggestions of mocha and wild mushrooms. On the palate, a silky tannin structure provides structure to delicate hints of bright cherries, tobacco, cigar box and wild blackberries.
When Benjamin Bridge was founded as a sparkling wine house back in 1999, the notion of specializing on stylistic pursuits that fundamentally aligned with our unique micro-climate was immediately built into its DNA.
To this day, such focus remains a guiding principle, and defines a precise portfolio of wines centered around traditional method sparkling. However, in select vintages, a rare, boutique-size production of red wine emerges, providing grounds for exploration while adding a touch of diversity.
This elusive red wine is occasionally created in minuscule quantity when the stars align to provide a vintage of substantial depth and ripeness.
Made primarily from sustainably-grown Petite Pearl, a variety known for its exceptional balance and abundance of soft tannins, the 2019 Taurus is the result of the most uncompromising low-intervention methodology.
The grapes were processed without the use of any sulphites, chemicals and perhaps most impressively without any mechanical equipment. The juice was naturally released by a traditional foot pigeage, and the whole cluster fermentation guided by indigenous yeast. The wine was subsequently aged in our concrete eggs, preserving the wine’s delicate purity. This cool climate-style red can be enjoyed lightly chilled.
