In the glass, a pale straw colour with a white gold hue. The nose offers an utterly pure bouquet of citrus oils, bittersweet floral perfume and fresh-culled mint. On the palate, the wine is crisp and electrifying, with zesty suggestions of lime, tangerine and a seamless chalky finish made of echoing maritime mineral notes.

Benjamin Bridge is thrilled to reveal its newest Tidal Bay vintage.

Wild-fermented using indigenous yeast native to the unique tidal ecosystem behind the appellation’s unmistakable style, this Tidal Bay is intimately connected to both place and the 2021 growing season. If interventionist wines can reliably achieve consistency, this Tidal Bay instead adheres to the opposite philosophy of fluctuation due to its direct connection to such diverse climatic variance from year-to-year.

In many ways, the 2021 vintage could not provide a more accurate representation of this principle of change. Similar to the prior vintage, a warm and premature Spring started the cycle - but memories of the heat of 2020 quickly dissipated in July and August. Modest heat units in the middle of Summer revealed the most unexpected result: an emulation of the earliest attributes of Tidal Bay wines.

After all, the appellation was brought to life in a different climatic context, when Summer days would rarely exceed 22 degrees, and the resulting pristine acidity would serve as a foundational piece to the stylistic guidelines of Tidal Bay. Early Tidal Bay wines embodied a vigorous freshness and vibrancy, two qualities that returned as essential to this 2021 vintage.

Add a touch of maritime salinity to fragrant floral aromatics and this new vintage may be our purest Tidal Bay to date, connecting our stylistic aspirations of the past with our natural and sustainable ethos of the present.
